In many ways we look at Social Media being for the younger generation but in many facts and studies we find that Social Media is for all ages. With many different tools everyone is using Social Media whether it be for work, school or connecting to friends and family. Social media isn’t dominated by the youngest, often most tech-savvy generations, but rather by what has to be referred to as middle-aged people. Way more teens use Facebook than adults do. Teens are also big fans of Twitter, while adults are bigger fans of Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr. Adults age 55-65 are growing faster than any other user group on Facebook, a well known networking site. While these users are not as large of a current population of young adults, they do have the largest growth potential in the social networking environment.
“Teenagers do not use Facebook as much as many of the other age groups. Users aged 13-18 accounted for only 10 percent of the Facebook population. Ages 18-29 is Facebook’s largest group, and this age group grew 74 percent in the last year. Facebook users between the ages of 30-49 use Facebook primarily for photo sharing and social communication. Facebook is the third most popular site for those 65 and older. Those aged 45-54 comprise 12 percent of the Facebook population; those 55-65 make up another 7 percent, and these two groups continue to grow”. By Ben Lingenfelter
Take a look at the average users on some of the most popular Social Media sites:
- 64% of Twitter’s users are aged 35 or older
- 61% of Facebooks’s users are aged 35 or older
The average LinkedIn user is 44 years old
The average Twitter user is 39 years old
The average Facebook user is 38 years old
Social networking is becoming a huge part of our every day lives:
- 45% of all adults are influenced by social networking
- 50% of adults ages 13-34 are influenced by social networking
- 37% of adults ages 55+ are influenced by social networking
For November’s Breakfast, we’re shakin’ it up! Join us for the Reach Your Target Panel!
Have you ever wondered the best way to reach your target demographic on social media? Then this session is for you! Our panel is comprised of three people from different backgrounds who all use social media extensively in their jobs and daily lives. We’re planning to drill them with impossible questions that you’ll be able to learn from.
Just kidding, we’re a little nicer than that — but you will still learn a ton!
Here’s a look at our three awesome panelists:
Rachel Arnold is Library Assistant at the Willmar Public Library where she helps run the @WillmarTeens Twitter Account and manage library inventory. She is, also, the Vice President of Student Senate at Ridgewater College and Vice President of Service for the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Rachel can often be seen around town in various volunteering capacities.
My name is Jessica Wallentine and I am the owner and photographer behind Jessica.Ann Photography. My studio is located in Priam, MN and I travel near and far to photograph my clients. I have been a professional photographer since 2004 and have photographed in Mexico, Alaska, and everything in between.
My passion for photography started as a child when I used to steal my Dad’s film camera and take photos with it. He would always love the “bonus” photos when he went to get his film developed!
After interning in Florida and graduating from Ridgewater College with a degree in Professional Photography, I worked at a photography studio for three years where I was able to build and enhance my skills as a photographer. Following my studio experience, I became a freelance photographer and have been doing that for three years now.
My style is relaxed and fun! One of my biggest compliments came from a groom that once said “Wow, this was actually fun taking photos! I was dreading it!” My goal is to make each session enjoyable and stress free. To learn more please visit my website: http://www.jessica-annphotography.com/
Dennis Benson has done a bit of everything throughout his career. He currently works as a piano technician in the Willmar area and as a freelance photographer for Live it! and Seasons magazines, special events, weddings and seniors. He has also designed websites for area businesses for 10 years. Dennis directs the pit orchestras at the Barn Theatre and directs the Prairie Winds Band in the summer. Originally from Grove City, he graduated from Bemidji University with a B.S. in music education and went on to teach at Murdock, KMS and the University of Minnesota-Morris. Dennis has worked with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and more, for three years.
Clearly this SMB is going to be great! As always, the event is free, but we ask that you please register ahead of time.
See you in November!
